August Theme Day - Night

It is a pretty standard sight around HCMC, but may be unusual to those outside of Vietnam. Motorcycle taxis, known as xe ôm, gather around night spots looking for fares. While waiting, it is common to see them stretch out and fall asleep on their bikes. You can get this type of picture 24 hours a day, and it reinforces the notion that Vietnamese are able to fall asleep just about anywhere at anytime

  2. Definitely the most unusual night post I have seen today! It's amazing they don't fall off their bikes!

  3. This is so interesting! I would lose circulation in that position. Unique interpretation . . .

  5. Yeah, one of those guys saved me in 1999 when i had 12 broken bones in my leg and a torn ligament or two in my knee after the spice bar. Still got the twelve bones in my freezer. Saving em for you...Still remember the call: Ah you nancy, keep dancin. Did for a while if I remember.

  7. Anon - I think I remember an incident like that in 1998. The guy involved would have danced until the millennium had the cupcakes been a little tastier. Not sure if he can walk now, let alone dance

  8. Thank you for your comment today about my photo of the total solar eclipse 10 days ago in the South Pacific. I am back from my trip there, and I feel tired enough to sleep on a motorcycle like the guy in your delightful photo today.

  9. Very interesting, I would have never know this about Vietnam and I've certainly never seen this done around my city.
