When people think of my city, they think of . . . . . Hồ Chí Minh

This month's theme day is pretty easy when your city is named after a person. Hồ Chí Minh is revered for leading the Viet Minh independence movement from 1941 onward, establishing the communist-governed Democratic Republic of Vietnam in 1945 and defeating the French Union in 1954 at Dien Bien Phu. He led the North Vietnamese in the Vietnam War until his death; six years later, the war ended with a North Vietnamese victory, and Vietnamese unification followed. The former capital of South Vietnam, Saigon, was renamed Ho Chi Minh City in his honor.

True, I remember from my history classes well...I also think of the musical Miss Saigon, as Lea Salonga who stars in it is a Filipino. Good day!

Iconic, indeed.

What a storytelling photo, great composition! When I think of Saigon, I think of the fall of the city and the thousands of people who fled and made their way eventually to Southern California. It is nice to see the commemorative banner for the Tet offensive as today's photo.
