I have visited this buddha in Da Lat. Yes, it does seem a bit cheesy to put neon lights around the head of the buddha. But I notice they tend to have no problem with things like this. In the US we would feel that it "cheapens" the place or is somehow disrespectful. We associate neon lights with fast food, movie theaters, prostitution, gambling, Las Vegas, and similar things. But there I have seen neon lights and Christmas lights and blinking LED's and all kinds of things on buddhas and shrines. Another example of how their culture is different.

I bet at night time when the circular neon lights are flashing around his head it is really peaceful
he looks like he is soaring up the trees !
It looks like great camouflage for a microwave tower, but I suppose that would be wrong.
