Forgot to ask: What kind of trees are those (the tall ones)? Do you know?

The tall trees are Tetrameles nudiflora. They have been planted in many streets throughout the city. These are some of the smaller ones in the street. Toward the other end there are some specimens closer to 10 stories high. The buttresses on these are massive at sidewalk level.

Thanks, Simon. I was just looking at four startling photos of the massive roots on Wiki.

I am really impressed by this photo. The city has made a dramatic return and looks beautiful.

Many thx for passing by my blog; this is, indeed, a very interesting one, too! This view is breath-taking--I'm always all for greenery--and plenty of it!!
