The lack (but improving) occupational health and safety standards always scares you the first time you see it. This painter is at the third level of a building, with his leg wrapped around the rung as his only means of holding on. The ladder is actually two bamboo ladders tied together, and the ladder is secured only to a railing on the roof. The scariest part for me is that this guy probably does this everyday. The other issue is that they never use a drip sheet, so even as they start at the top and work their way down, there are paint drips all over things (like the shingle roof tiles here), that end up covered in paint.

This is incredible. It looks like a bamboo ladder being dangled and tied for the painter to hold on to dear life. Anyway I like the pastel choice of blue-green colours. Thanks for the links at the side bar. They have been useful for me to get more information about Vietnam.Cheerio.
as a nurse having worked in spinal cord rehab for many years it's hard to witness situations as you describe. and it freaked me out seeing workers at my home do similar stunts (the landlord had send them for minor repairs at the windows) and they would just not understand my worries.
keep safe, everybody! living in Viet Nam increases your chances of acquiring a spinal cord injury.
Scary indeed !
This reminds of the Rush Hour 2 movie when Inspector Lee (Jackie Chan) said "Chinese bamboo is very strong." LOL.
