Graves in the crop fields


All over Vietnam you will see tombs in rice paddies. This lot look like they are surrounded by sugarcane.

It's because the tombs were there before the farmers were given those land by the government. My grandfather is buried in our private family cemetery, but after 75, the government distributed our cemetery to their veterans. So now my grandfather's tomb, along with ancestors going back for more than 200 years, now have various crops surrounding them, not to mention a pig sty (literally too.) We consider our situation still fortunate because many other families are being ordered to exhume the bodies because the land is being redeveloped.
